Corporate Security & How Lakeland Has Benefitted
I believe that there are a number of changes to consider when it comes to corporate security. This probably goes without saying but there are some guards who may not be fully prepared to take on whatever case might occur. However, with the best technology set in place - whether it has to do with firearms, cameras, or what have you - these workers are able to perform to higher levels than before. This is especially true when considering the recent developments that have come about at Lakeland College.
The Sheboygan Press wrote an article talking about how the corporate security guards working at Lakeland College have been able to become armed. This is great news, especially considering that times - as well as safety measures - have changed over the course of time. With the implementation of guns, it goes to show that these workers are now more set than ever before. Having such assets at hand is vital; this is supported by authorities along the lines of the Protective Group and for good reason.
I do not think that this is terribly out of the ordinary, especially when it is considered that violence has broken out in campuses in the past. Lakeland is, in my eyes, working hard in order to prepare for scenarios so that everyone is going to be made safer. Guns might not have been required at one point but it seems as though times have changed more than most would realize. It is all in the name of greater protection, at least from my perspective.
This isn't a movement that is made for the sake of preparing for a potential violent event. In fact, this is made more so as a simple precautionary measure in case something happens that the guards have to use greater force to overcome. I believe that there are many stories circulating on this subject and I do not know if individuals should be so fearful of them. If anything, I believe that this goes to show that the hired guards as well as prospective employees for the job are going to be that much more effective.
To me, there is a lot of effort that comes with corporate security and how it has been made better over the course of time. Lakeland has done well in arming its guards, making sure that each of them are prepared in order to take care of any situation, be it big or small. Hopefully this level of protection will prove itself useful in the long term. If this the case, I have no doubt that everyone - whether it is students, instructors, or what have you - will be that much safer.
